“Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden.” (Phaedrus). Maurice and Madeleine Marceau are among those few.
In a small Wisconsin town, famous for Houdini, another conjurer, this one with a medical degree, is hard at work plying his magic. A victimless crime, “money for nothing, and your chicks for free.” If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
Madeleine Marceau has been asked by a friend to help her do due diligence. It involves a medical practice, so naturally she turns to her dad to seek his input. Maurice is more than happy to help. White collar crimes, insurance fraud, and money laundering; issues too good to resist.
To do so, they travel to Wisconsin, New York, and DC. The effort is made that much more difficult as a Pandemic has hit full force, and riots in the street, complicate matters further. Forged by previous experience, the father/daughter team are well prepared to get the answers. Although they might not be the ones they were looking for.
